Tromluí Cailleach

NIGHTMARE HARBINGERSA unique, rare, and mortal-created fae species. They are not traditionally born as a fae normally would be: all Tromluí Cailleach are infertile.Mortals/humanoids are "born" into this race by meeting, establishing a relationship (positive/negative) with a Tromluí Cailleach, and by entering a ritual where they give up a significant thing (at the fae's discretion) and die. These fae control the dream-state that people are in at night. Rarely, some are allowed to manipulate dreams without causing nightmares. Others are solely responsible for torturing 'evil' (in quotations because morals are a flexible thing) souls in the Realm of Nightmares, providing faceless "actors" for people's bad dreams.Secondarily, these fae are in charge of death, most often the deaths of the 'evil', as their souls provide aid in creating bad dreams. They are usually seen when death is near, or imminent- or if they are on a specified quest for something.Tromluí Cailleach does not really follow a hierarchy, however, they do honor the Neo-Bhasmor (the Fae of Nightmares) as the 'deity' of their species. Since the traditional Neo-Bhasmor was killed by Eolaiche-anam, they have become the 'new' Neo-Bhasmor. Tromluí Cailleach do not have a democracy, seeing as they are not 'ruled' by anything other than the deity-like tree entity (that is now dead). Since Eolaiche-anam killed Neo-Bhasmor, the species is somewhat lawless, and unpredictable. They have no friends, or enemies as a group. Individual fae of this species can form relationships for themselves without distress of their ruler's opinion (thanks to Eolaiche-anam in part, as the old Neo-Bhasmor despised Mortals). They are taught not to get attached to Mortals. They are soulless, meaning that while their flesh dies, they can be spawned again via the Nightmare Realm in their Nightmare appearance and live in people's nightmares forever.Once their flesh-selves are slain, they are permanently stuck in the Realm of Nightmares until someone offers a corpse for them to take on in the overworld.Their greatest weakness is flame, though they crave the warmth. Most Tromluí Cailleach will appear on the overworld like elves- and their only distinct difference from Mortals is that they are corpse-like cold to the touch. Often, they lack emotion, but can become emotional if it is taught/learned.Tromluí Cailleach are usually very passive, and choose to fight with mental manipulation rather than weaponry. They typically make good spies, manipulators, and criminals. They are defenders of the forest, but are often shunned by other fae for killing the animals and plant-life while they reside there, forcing them into a nomadic life.Tromluí Cailleach, when angered or stimulated enough, can speak quietly aloud, but be heard by their target in an excrutiatingly loud voice- often telling the person to do something harmful to themself, or their company.Since they are fae of Mind Manipulation and Mind Control, they excel in dominating magicks and spells. They also do not sleep, seeing as they are dead- they also do not require food or water, but can/will eat it to blend in.

Koya's expression rarely changes from its flat, emotionless stare. They are not the greatest socializer, and they struggle to understand jokes, innuendo, and sarcasm unless it is plainly obvious. They are intelligent, and well spoken. Naturally, they are excellent in magicks, healing, and botany. Koya not very friendly at first, but is a friendly sort all in all. They are opinionated, though open-minded, a shit-stirrer, though very patient. Koya tends to be calm, first, but deep down worries endlessly, loves hard, and is very defensive.

In Depth

THE FAE─── ⋆ ✰ ⋆ ───Fae have always been beautiful, enigmatic creatures of nature. Koya is no different.Ginger tresses like rotting ivies, falling delicately down over and around a face of expressionless manner. Eyelashes that same color, flutter lightly over pale purple eyes, with a faint glow. They appear glazed over as if blind, or dead.Star white freckles curiously adorn the cheeks, nose, and chest. Plush, pillowy brown-orange stained lips sit parted ever so slightly. Breath, cold, but refreshing escapes their body through their nostrils and mouth.Poking from behind the wavy flows of ginger hair are a pair of elvish ears. While lithe, and petite, Koya appears to have some feminine curves at their hips, and breasts. They decorate this body with clothes of a mostly feminine aesthetic, wearing dresses, armor, and custom tailored outfits. Most of their attire has a deep purple and silver aesthetic. They smell of vetiver, petrichor, wet Autumn leaves, trees (mainly sandalwood), incense (frankincense), and moss. They invoke such a feeling of familiarity, and deja-vu, that one would begin to wonder if they are dreaming, or had seen them in a dream. Their appearance, though breathtaking, often invokes a bit of fear in the observer if they are stared at for too long.Animals die upon Koya's touch, and forests will rot to fungus when Koya walks through them. However, after Koya leaves, these things return to life as if they had never died. This ability seems to not effect humanoid species. Their ability, although against their will, seems to invoke suspicion in some.Their voice is a soprano, feminine tone. They are soft-spoken, and have a rasp to their voice as if they had been resting for many years. They are often sometimes hard to understand unless it is quiet. They lack emotion, typically- but will show it from time to time. When extremely emotional, Koya tends to self-destruct, which can have consequences for those around them.

THE NIGHTMARE─── ⋆ ✰ ⋆ ───While you dream peacefully at night, you begin to notice the air around you grow stiff and heavy. You are transported from your dream to a dead forest, surrounded by fungus, and spores. You face a pond, or creek, and see that the water is not the typical blue-green hue. It is a purple murkiness that leaves you uneasy.Spinning around, looking for a way back- your eyes are drawn to that pond again, where you see a dead juvenile doe standing, staring at you.It appears dead, but also alive, with gore, and skeleton exposed, and glowing purple eyes it stares at you. Eye contact is extremely hard to break, and staring at this deer gives you a terrible migraine. If you stare long enough, Koya's voice is heard in a foreign language, at a volume that is beyond too loud to make out. It pounds in your head like a cannon. They repeat the same sentence over, and over- like a monster.Should you be able to break eye-contact with the deer, the voice will stop, the migraine will cease. But, you will find that there is no escape. You will have to find a way to wake yourself up- or wait it out until morning.Only those who have done extremely evil things will experience this nightmare on a daily basis. Some will mistakenly happen on this visit from Koya by accidentally, or intentionally upsetting them, asking for it (for some reason), or Koya simply trying to give someone a good dream but failing.Because Koya is a fae of nightmares specifically, no dream they influence will ever be good. However, they can make potions, cast spells, and provide comfort to someone who wishes to have a good dream after having many nightmares. When reminded of their first love, Koya will shut down, becoming their nightmare form, which can move but not speak, and often will abandon their company for several hours/days before returning to the party as their normal self and apologizing. Sometimes they will act as if it never happened at all.

HOOKS─── ⋆ ✰ ⋆ ───Is It Really You?: Their appearance invokes a sickening sense of deja-vu to everyone they meet. One could wonder, "have I met this person before, in a dream?".─── ⋆ ⭑ ⋆ ───Whispers of Unspoken: This creature isn't normal. Some may believe they're a God, others, a monster. Either way, they're not Mortal.─── ⋆ ⭑ ⋆ ───The Soul Illusionist: Some will advise that you never offer gifts to Fae. It opens the door for contracts, pacts, trickery, and naysaying.But... what if you did? Many people offer gifts to the forest dwelling fae of Nightmares. Gifts include pumpkins, bones, fresh milk, squash, bundled herbs, poems/books, food, mead, and sometimes gold.It is almost as if they are worshiped. But they seem disinterested in creating pacts, or being owed favors. In fact, they even seem to refuse the offer when proposed at all - even sometimes going as far as to tell Mortals to avoid using certain phrases, so that Mortals do not walk themselves into a trap.─── ⋆ ⭑ ⋆ ───

The Past

─── ⋆ ✰ ⋆ ───Before Koya became Eolaiche-anam, they were a simple servant. They worked mainly for criminals, since they were easy to keep quiet, and very non-threatening in appearance. Koya made for a fantastic spy, thief, and manipulator.Koya, however, wanted more from life- so they ventured into the woods in hopes that they'd find something or someone with something different. For days, Koya wandered, lost and afraid before they found themself talking to a fae. This fae, now long since dead, offered to 'make' them fae by forming a pact with a strong, powerful fae named Neo-Bhasmor. The original fae of Nightmares. This fae was so terrifying that it could not exit the Realm of Nightmares, in fact, it had become so powerful and so horrifying that it became a large dead tree in the Realm of Nightmares that spoke via telepathy. When Koya's mentor introduced the two, Neo-Bhasmor asked for Koya's soul in exchange for blessing them with a fae ability. Innocent, naive, and manipulated by the fae that was mentoring them, Koya obliged. Koya was immediately killed.Koya was not missed, in fact, no one ever noticed they were gone. Neo-Bhasmor made sure to show them this, by giving them a hands-on experience of running through the minds of their family, friends, and loved ones that were alive. Anyone who had ever loved Koya was dead, and Koya would never be able to bring them back. The transformation was excrutiating- as Neo-Bhasmor's typical way of transforming humans into fae was a form of torture that it seemed to enjoy witnessing. As Koya's flesh contorted, and reformed, Koya's mind remained alive and intact- causing pain that could not be fought or satiated with breath or screams alone. It felt as though their insides were being burned, and their outsides frozen solid. However, after hours of agony- they felt nothing. It was freeing. One of the first things Koya did as a fae was try to help people. They had been a healer in their time, before, and practiced magicks of aid and illness prevention. However, their spells and potions fell short. Until they met Eleazor.Eleazor was a human man, dying of a plague that was the result of a curse. Koya desperately tried to help him, using their knowledge of fae as a resource to undo the curse. Sure enough, Koya discovered that Eleazor had been cursed by some fae-adjacent creature with a fatal illness. The two fought the creature, Koya offered an accord to it, on Eleazor's behalf so that he would not suffer the pact once more. The fae offered to heal Eleazor, so long as Koya suffered forever. It did not elaborate on how Koya would suffer. It was a simple thing to pay, as Koya had fallen deeply in love with Eleazor despite being told not to attach themself to humans. However, as the fae had promised Koya- Eleazor did not feel the same. In fact, he told Koya he would never like to see them again, and disappeared.Koya assumed in time, he would die- since they figured the fae was just trying to get a jab at Koya for being desperate, and didn't need or want to spare Eleazor when he had gone against the pact he had formed with it. So, in the meantime, they ran to the Realm of Nightmares to "wait it out". During this time, Koya went against Neo-Bhasmor, and set the tree-fae ablaze. They murdered their mentor, and became the 'new' ruler of the Realm of Nightmares. They waited 10 years. When they returned to the overworld, they found Eleazor alive, cured, and happily married.Koya would regret that, forever.─── ⋆ ✰ ⋆ ───
